Everything you need to know to get started

You booked your paint session! Hurray! Here’s what’s next.

But first.

How many kids will be painting? What are their names and ages? Please let know. This will help me plan the session!

1 ) Creating your custom colour palette

Send me ALL your inspo!! All options of where you envision your artwork going, existing decor, and anything else you love I can draw inspiration from about who your family is. I really want to know what colours you love and you’re hoping to see in your art.

2 ) Sized just for your space

Final measurements are needed to make sure we get the sizing just right. When possible, I will come to your home in advance of the session. We’ll work together to make sure we get that gorgeous custom fit.

3 ) Prepping your canvas

Shopping for your colours is one of the most exciting parts for me as I see the design begin to take shape. I prepare the base layer of your canvas so we have layers to build on- it’s all about the layers! I prep your colours to make sure they’re working together the way we envisioned - and there’s no pressure on the kids to cover every inch when it’s paint time.

4 ) Paint day

Dressing for a mess is a must! Old tshirts, something they’ve stained or outgrown is perfect. The paint does *not* come out of clothing once it’s dry. It comes off of skin though :)

The warm weather months are beautiful for paint sessions to be held outside. Your own backyard is best (or front if you have a grassy area without any valuables nearby).

If your hose is available, make sure to have it ready for a more convenient wash up :)

During the cooler winter months, I am now equipped to run paint sessions in my newly retrofitted Thornhill studio! If our scheduled date looks like rain there’s always that fallback during the summer too.

5 ) After your session

The paint will take 24 hours to fully dry and over the next couple of days will undergo a few layers of high gloss to keep it protected from dust, UV, and water damage. The shiny finish also brings out the vibrancy of the colours.

At this point your art is ready for stretching. I’m always happy to help facilitate this at no additional cost so you can begin enjoying your art sooner!  Stretching and framing is done by your local framer.

I’m happy to answer any questions you have. Can’t wait to meet your family and get our creative process started!
